Children for adoption

So you are trying your hardest to find some information about adopting children.   Why can't I just go out to a website like ebay and find one I like and pick him/her out and take them home?   You have hit a wall because your search takes you to a certain site that is specifically for that agency.  What to do?

First, think about what age child are you looking to adopt.  Am I willing to adopt an older child.  Like grade school, middle school or high school.   If you answer yes to that situation, then try to google your local state foster system.  They should have a site or try: http://adoptuskids.org/ and try that search.  That will give you a list of kids that are ready to be adopted.   Now if you want to consider a younger child, you may want to foster to adopt.   If you are open to foster to adopt, then that will open up a lot of younger kids to you.   Check with your state/county foster system for details on this program.

Second, think about checking with the Better Business Bureau before signing with an adoption agency.  Start there.   Then check some reviews online if you can find any.  Then check with some friends who have adoped.  They will be your biggest resource and support system.

Sometimes your local church might have some contacts.  At least they will have people there who might have gone through adoptions.   Once people know you are adopting, you will discover a large community of people who have already walked down that road.  Best of luck.
