Toddlers

I think that one of the unexpected consequences of this poor economy are the parents who feel like they can longer support their kids.  My wife and I were presented with 4 toddler situations on our adoption journey.  The saiddest of which were two girls, one 18 month and one 4 year old.   Its a really sad situation.  This does present some adoption opportunities but let me tell you that these situations are risky.  Let me explain.   We had two situations where we said yes, were chosen as the adoptive parents and then the birth parents decided to keep the child.  The last one of these situations backed out 4 days before we were to meet the child.  His name is Kevin.  I still wondered what happened to Kevin. Where is he today?  Is he still with his Dad?    He will always have a place in our hearts.

Anyway back to the blog.  You need to realize the volatility of this situation.  The risk is great but so could be the reward.  Think about it.  In our case, the pool of adoptive parents were few.   So the odds are in your favor.  Are you ready to consider toddlers?  In our case, we wanted a toddler for our toddler.  An instant friend.   In your case you may just want to adopt more quickly.  At any rate, I encourage you to consider all of the options.
